Changing your AIM password is easy and can be done in a few simple steps. Most people use a different instant messaging client such as AIM to access their AOL instant messenger account in order to avoid advertisements. If you are using a different instant messaging client to access your AOL instant messenger account, you do not need to download the client software in order to change your AIM password.
1. Log-in to AIM and open the “My AIM” menu.
2. Select “Edit Options”
3. Click on “Change Password”.
NOTE: You could also go directly to this link: http://www.aim.com/password/change_password.adp. and then key in your screen name or the e-mail address you registered for your AIM account along with your password, and click Sign In.
1. The Account Security Question (ASQ) you selected when registering for AIM will appear. Type the answer for your Account Security Question.
2. Click on continue
3. On the Manage Your Account page, click Edit next to Password
4. Type your old password in the first box, your new password in the second and third box, and then click Submit.
5. You will then receive a confirmation message saying that your password was successfully reset. Click the OK button, and click Sign Out at the top left of Manage Your Account page to exit.
If you have lost your password, you will need to reset it. You can do that by simply following the steps outlined below:
1. Go to the AIM site and click on forgot password link at the sign in box in the login page. Alternatively, you can go directly to the password reset page by clicking on the following link – http://www.aim.com/password/forgot_password.adp.
2. Under “Screen Name or E-mail”, enter your AIM name, or the e-mail address you registered your AIM account with.
3. Under “Word In Image”, enter the letters and numbers that are displayed in the Image box.
NOTE: If you do not see the image clearly on the image verification page, make sure that your browser preferences are set to display images and try again. If that does not work, click the Can’t see this image? link to hear the hidden code. This will open an Audio Verification page. Click Play Audio and listen to the code, then type it in.
1. Click on next button.
2. You now need to decide on which option to take:
¨ You can either type your alternate contact e-mail address that you had provided at the time of registration under “Enter Your e-mail Address”.
OR
¨ You can select your birth date from the drop-down menus, select your gender, then type the ZIP Code that you had provided at the time of registration.
1. Answer the Account Security Question (ASQ you selected when registering for AIM. Make sure you give the same answer that you had given before.
2. click submit
3. You will then be asked to type in your new password. Type it in both the “Type new password” and “ReType new password” boxes.
NOTE: Make sure that you type in a strong password of more than 6 characters. Try combining characters, numbers and letters.
1. click submit
2. You will then receive a confirmation message saying your password was successfully reset. You will also receive a confirmation email.
3. Click the continue button to continue using AIM.
