It is much easier to change to change your AOL password if it is stored in the AOL or AIM software. That is because you don’t need to go online to change it, although in the end, it would be well advised to confirm whether you can go online with your new password. But before you choose a password to replace the old one, you should try and satisfy yourself that you will remember that password with ease, and that other people won’t guess your new password easily. And so, your password should be different from your screen name. Also remember that strong passwords should be at least six to sixteen characters long, with a combination of uppercase and lowercase letters and numbers whenever possible. Only authorized persons should try and change passwords. If you reveal your AOL account details to someone else who goes ahead to change your account settings, including changing the password without your consent, you will nonetheless be bound with the AOL terms of use especially when such use is deemed detrimental to your own online well being.
To change a stored password while using AOL and AIM software, click on the sign “on Screen” and choose your screen name from the menu. Delete the password on the password box and add the new one that you want to be using. Check the “Save Password” box.
If you wish to change your password while still online, you will need to sign on to AOL software with your screen name that has the password that you want to change.
1. Access the AOL Keywords by either clicking on the “Keyword” icon or click on the “Go to Keyword” on the Keyword menu.
2. From there, you may then type “Store password” on the “AOL Keyword” box, and then press “Go’ button.
3. Add the new password in the password box, and then save it.
Alternatively, you can go through the following steps;
1. Choose the “settings” menu from the toolbar.
2. From settings, select “passwords” option.
3. Then select “change passwords” menu.
4. You will then have the opportunity to fill in the current password that you want to change.
5. Enter the new password on the appropriate box.
6. Retype the password on the box immediately below.
7. Finish the process by clicking “change”.
Still, there is another method for changing AOL password while still online; you can sign in to an AOL service, and then go to http://password.aol.com. Choose the answer security question from the available questions and type the answer on the answer box. Base the answer on something factual so that it becomes easy to remember. Once you’ve done that, click on the “continue” button. Type in your new password and re-type it in the second box and finish the process by clicking “Save’ button.
For people with impaired hearing capability, they too can change their passwords by calling the AOL call center (the number currently given is 1-800-759-3323) and get assistance, though one needs a TTY-enabled device to use this service.
