To achieve this, you must have Adobe Acrobat 6 or Acrobat 7 on your computer. Use these two options instead of using PDF Writer which is quite ancient and is no longer being supported by Acrobat. Individuals and organizations find it appealing to convert their Word (.doc) into Portable Document Format (.PDF) because the document shall be viewed in the same format across many other computer applications and software. Word documents, on the other hand, will only be viewed in a word supported computer. But before one starts converting a document from one format to the other, one should make a copy of the original document just about to be converted, for you the original document might be irreversibly reformatted during conversion.
The first step would be to set up the PDF printer as the default printer as this enhances the results. This is done by doing the following;
1.Go to Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes (For WinXP) or Start > Settings > Printers (Windows 2000).
2.The second step is to configure the Adobe PostScript printer driver. A driver that has affinity with the post script printer will be required before one can create PDF files. The word printer here means printer driver and not the physical printer. You must also program AdobePS to send TrueType fonts as NativeType fonts with their appearance preserved. To do this one needs to do the following, for both Windows and XP as well;
i) Go to Start > Settings > Printers and Faxes (For WinXP) or Start > Settings > Printers (For Windows 2000).
ii) Right click on the Adobe file, and go to the “properties.”
iii) On the General tab, click on the “Printing Preferences”, then click the “Layout tab”, and then click “Advanced.”
iv) Next to PostScript Options is a plus sign, click on it.
v) Choose the TrueType Font Download Option, and then select Native TrueType from the menu.
3. The next step is to specify the printing options in Word. The Adobe Acrobat PDF printer will then use the printing options you specify in the Word Options. Described below is the typical path;
Go to “Tools”>”Options”>Print lab>Deselect “Reverse Print Order”>Print.
4. If the PDF document has low resolution graphics, replace those graphics with higher resolution ones. Any graphic with a resolution lower than 200 dpi would fit the criteria of a low resolution graphics.
5. Your needs should inform your choice about the kind of features that you want in the PDF files. The quickest and the simplest method of making PDF files is Adobe PDF printer. However, if you want a little more than that, to include styles, bookmarks, tags and so on, then it would be prudent to use the PDFMaker. Naturally, PDFMaker takes longer to print the documents because of the added enhancements.
6. To create a PDF file using PDF Printer, go to the word document to be converted and choose “File”>”Print”, and then select Adobe PDF from the printer menu. Click Ok and after specifying the location of the new PDF document, you can click save and go to the location to retrieve that document
