Digital Photography Tutorial
Taking a digital photograph is very simple provided you know the features available in your digital camera and the technique to use them. The first and foremost thing that you should know to capture photographs is to capture the light. Depending upon the image that you are going to capture, light will vary. However, it is essential that there is enough light for the picture that you are going to take. The more the light, brighter the picture clarity will be. Even if you capture photographs indoor, ensure that there is proper lighting.
When capturing images indoor, you might have to use flash for proper lighting. You may also ensure that the room is lit with enough light to capture the photograph rather than using flash to take clear photographs.
If your digital camera allows you to have manual control, then also it is possible to allow more light to the camera rather than using flash. This is because in general, the light from the flash reaches only a maximum of 10 – 15 feet.
By adjusting the aperture of your digital camera, it is possible to widen the lens opening and allow more light to pass into the camera. You can also allow more light to pass through the digital camera by adjusting the shutter speed. If you use a longer shutter speed, you allow more time for the available light to enter. Similarly, you can also adjust the exposure feature available in the digital camera for better lighting.
One of the advanced techniques in a digital camera is controlling the aperture. This will allow you to control the width of the lens opening. Therefore, you get direct control on how much light can enter the camera. This is called as an “F-stop” or “aperture number” where “F” refers to the focal length of the lens. If the aperture number is small, shutter speed is shorter and if larger, shutter speed is longer.
If you would like to change the feel of the image or the photograph that you have captured, you can achieve it by controlling the shutter speed. To refer the sensitivity of the digital sensor, digital cameras use ISO. It is generally referred in terms of numeric, such as ISO 100 or ISO 600. Higher ISO value means more sensitive to exposure from light. Most digital cameras automatically controls ISO settings, however, it is also possible to manually control the ISO settings. If you set high ISO values, it may lead to more noise in the photograph. Noise-reduction software’s are available, which can use either to eliminate or reduce the noise in the photograph or image that you have taken using high ISO values. Another powerful editing tool is cropping. This trims off the unwanted areas of the photograph or the image that you have captured.
