How to Install an MP4 CoDec in Windows Media Player
1. Installing an MP4 codec in Windows Media Player begins with obtaining the official codec pack itself from Microsoft.
- Go to www.microsoft.com then go to Download Center.
- Go to the search box that says “Search All Download Center” and search for “codec”.
- Browse through the results and choose “Codec Installation Package for Windows Media Player 7.1 or later.” This item contains the latest codec package for Windows Media Player 10 and 11.
- The Windows download center requires a validation of a “genuine” Microsoft Windows. Undergo the validation.
- Codec pack should be ready for download.
- Once the .exe file has finished downloading, run it by double clicking it.
- If you are unfamiliar with these settings, choose the basic installation setup.
2. Another way to install an MP4 codec will be using the K-Lite Mega Codec Pack.
The K-Lite Mega Codec pack is not an official Microsoft package. But many people have been using it and it is also very frequently updated, therefore it is a highly supported codec pack.
- Go the www.free-codecs.com.
- Look at the left hand bar and choose “Codec Packs”.
- Choose K-Lite or K-Lite Mega Codec Pack.
- Click “Download K-Lite Mega Codec Pack”.
- Once the .exe file has finished downloading, run it by double clicking it.
- For non experts, choose to install the recommended setup as it is highly recommended.
- Click “Next”.
