iPhone: The Different Facts and Myths

Posted on 10 June 2010

The iPhone has spurred numerous comments here and there from both fanatics and detractors. But with so much word spreading around, which of them are true and which are not. Let’s try to tackle the different myths hounding this wonder-phone.

Myth 1: It lacks high-end features. True. In fact, anyone should have expected that will all the hype it’s causing, it should have more electronic features that you could probably imagine. But the iPhone isn’t only meant for the selected few. It’s created with the hope that it could reach and be used by as many people all over the world. Thus, it should remain at least at a price saleable. Incorporating too much features into it will mean that you also need to jack up its price.

Myth 2: There’s unlimited choice of providers for iPhone. This is false. Apple, the creator and developer of iPhone, stroked an exclusive deal with Cingular Wireless (AT&T) until 2009. By then, if you have other network carriers, you need to obtain your own account at Cingular before you can enjoy your iPhone. At first, it looks disadvantageous, yet there are underlying reasons to it. You won’t enjoy the benefits iPhone brings you if not for this bargain. First, it makes iPhone one solid product providing universal GSM network. Second, unlocking the phone will simply mean that you have to let go of Internet connectivity and MMS. Most of all, Apple would need to restructure the phone a lot of times in order to gain access to all other network providers.

Myth 3: Features of iPhone are already integrated in other phones. It falls both ways. Like any other phone, iPhone allows you to send messages, browse the Internet, and make a call. It helps you track down appointments too. Yet one should never discount that inasmuch as touch screen technology has been around for years, not one was as bold and risky as Apple, in addition to that it’s introduced the finger gesture system that’s practical and highly intuitive.

Myth 4: iPhone is highly prone to scratches. The iPhone can be scratched, but only if you scratch it or something scratches it. Like any other device, it is still subject to wear and tear no matter how much protective coating you’re going to place on it.

More than anything else, iPhone is an innovation. It’s still open to changes and revolution, but as a mobile user, all you can do is to wait and see.
