Posted on 27 May 2010

As soon as you get a digital camera, it is not advisable to start taking photos. It is always advisable to read the user manual that came with the camera. This is because by reading the user manual, you will be able to take advantage of all the features that are available in the camera else you will take snaps by just knowing the basic functionalities. If you take photographs after going through the user manual, you will be able to take not only better but also best snaps.

Now-a-days, many digital camera vendors provide the user manuals in the form of a CD-ROM. You just have to insert the CD into your CD drive and start reading it. However, to read these manuals, you would require Adobe Acrobat software as they will be in .PDF formats. Some vendors also provide a hard copy of the user manual.

Some digital camera models allow you to set the time and date. If your camera has this feature, set them, so that every time you take a digital photograph, the date and time of when it was taken is stored. You can have the advantage of the digital camera remembering the dates of the important digital photographs that you captured. By setting date and time, you also can sort the photographs that you have taken by the dates they were taken.

You will also get to know about the type of batteries your digital camera is using after you have read through the user manual. Some batteries are rechargeable whereas others are use-and-throw. Getting a battery, which can be recharged, is more economical when compared to the use-and-throw battery. This is because if you get a battery that can be used only for some time, you may have to spend money in getting a battery. However, if the battery can be recharged, then it is a one-time investment.

After you have read the manual and have got a little knowledge about your digital camera, start taking a few snaps, may be some things that are closer or that are bigger in size. Once you are confident about the way you handle the digital camera, start taking your near and dear, sceneries or anything that amuses you.

When taking a digital photograph, it is essential that you set a proper image resolution. It might vary for various digital cameras. You can choose between low to high depending upon your need. Images with lower resolution occupy less space than that with a higher resolution. It is up to your discretion to choose the kind of image resolution you require.

Certain digital cameras also allow you to set the format in which you require these photographs. It is always advisable to choose .jpeg format as they occupy less space due to their compressed file format.

You will also have to set the image sharpness and contrast before taking a digital photograph. You can also adjust the sharpness of the image by using photo editing software like Adobe Photoshop.
