Computer networking is an integral part of computer technology. With computer networking, computers located in different areas can communicate and exchange information with each other.
Of course, when you are setting up a computer network, you will need to put up some effort, and you will need specialized networking hardware. This hardware is needed in order to have a successful network.
Network Card
For starters, you will need to add a network card to each of your computers that will be connected to the network. If you are setting up a wired network, you will need an Ethernet networking card on your PC. With an Ethernet card , your computer can be connected to the network through the use of a UTP cable with an RJ-45 connector at the end.
A wireless network will require a different kind of networking hardware. With a wireless network, a computer will need a Wi-Fi networking card in order to connect to the network. A Wi-Fi networking card will not require any cable connections. Instead, it will connect through electromagnetic waves. However, these connections have their own specific limitations as well.
Data Distributors
For a network to function, you will need a networking hardware that is specifically made to distribute the information to the different computers in the network. These devices can often handle several computers at once, and configurations differ depending on the type of networking hardware.
In wired computer networks, this networking hardware are known as hubs, routers, and switches. Each of these devices has their own specific method of interconnecting computers in a network. The hub is by far the simplest while the router is the most complex of the three.
For wireless networks, another type of networking hardware is needed in order to distribute data to the computer networks. These networking hardware are often referred to as wireless router , wireless hub, or a wireless switch. These networking hardware devices are responsible for providing wireless connectivity to the computers connected in the network.
Data Centers
In addition to the networking hardware stated, there are also special devices that act as a storage area for data in a network. These are often referred to as data servers or file servers, and their function is to store data centrally within a computer network.
