Technology Downfalls

Technology has had profound effects on lifestyle throughout human history, and especially as the rate of progress increases.

Though society has based many of its goals upon advances in technology, this may not be such a desired goal. People are becoming less tolerant, much less motivated, and increasingly lazy. People are beginning to expect things to be done quickly and efficiently, and people are becoming too focused on the end result rather than whether ethical and right methods are used to achieve the end result.

Motivation is also effected by way of goal oriented employers. Also, Laziness is another element which can be caused by technology. All of these factors are becoming more and more apparent, and are becoming all too common. Technology Downfalls 300x200 Technology Downfalls

We are becoming lazier, and our human relationships with family, friends, and co-workers are suffering if we continue to rely on computers and video games as our main source of entertainment.

The expansion of technology and the ever-growing use of the Internet have led people to become lazy and too reliant on what technology can do for them, instead of what they can do for themselves. Unfortunately, people have become so infatuated with and dependent on the Internet that their social skills have diminished. Also suffering is face-to-face interaction among employees, businessmen, and even family and friends.

Also, the huge development in technology has also complicated life, and it has many negative effects on people. First of all, the new technology in mass media changes cultural values and social behaviors by spreading ideas, values, behavior patterns within a society and among different groups.

Some technologies also have negative effects on the environment, such as pollution, and lack of sustainability because they are designed to economic effects only.

Here we will discuss some of the disadvantages or the downfalls from technology which have not been discussed till now:

1. Unemployment: While information technology may have streamlined the business process it has also crated job redundancies, downsizing and outsourcing. This means that a lot of lower and middle level jobs have been done away with causing more people to become unemployed.

2. Privacy: Though information technology may have made communication quicker, easier and more convenient, it has also bought along privacy issues. From cell phone signal interceptions to email hacking, people are now worried about their once private information becoming public knowledge.

3. Lack of job security: Industry experts believe that the Internet has made job security a big issue as since technology keeps on changing with each day. This means that one has to be in a constant learning mode, if he or she wishes for their job to be secure.

4. Dominant culture: While information technology may have made the world a global village, it has also contributed to one culture dominating another weaker one. For example it is now argued that US influences how most young teenagers all over the world now act, dress and behave. Languages too have become overshadowed, with English becoming the primary mode of communication for business and everything else.

5. Rising Consumerism: Technology inflates appetites for consumer goods and creature comforts.

6. Conflict: In the competition for scarce resources, technology breeds conflicts. Technology has also skewed our perception of time, nourishing a desire for speed and instant gratification and ignoring long-term impacts.

7. Expectations of response: People believe and expect that since they can leave you a message or send email quickly, you should listen, read, and respond as fast. Trying to respond as quickly as messages receive is probably the greatest deterrents to productivity as you are merely responding to never ending interruptions.

8. Effect on Environment:Pollution is a serious problem in technologically advanced society. The increase in transportation technology has brought congestion. So nowadays, allergies, and common cold etc which are easily brought on by the pollution, dust etc is on the rise.

9. Side Effect of Technology Sources: Some side effects are unexpected because of a lack of interest or resources to predict them. But many are not predictable even in principle because of the sheer complexity of technological systems and the inventiveness of people in finding new applications.

Some unexpected side effects may turn out to be ethically, aesthetically, or economically unacceptable to a substantial fraction of the population, resulting in conflict between groups in the community.
