Any meeting of people that “confer” or discuss about a topic is termed as Conference. And the communication medium used to confer is telephone so this kind of conference is called as telephone conference.
This can also be framed as “ the process of making simultaneous call link from a caller to more than two called parties using special equipment called as conference bridge that takes care of the communication links between these parties.
In general to make a conference call, first the caller has to dials a special number provided by his telephone service provider and then the others parties number. This numbers are taken as the link numbers and the bridge establishes the communication channel link between these numbers. These channel links have the capability to share a common voice source. So a voice input from a party or channel is directed towards other channels in the conference link, thus enabling every party to hear and participate in conference.
Certain service providers have enhanced their system so that a called person in a conference can in-turn call other peoples for conference. These types of telephone conference are used by business peoples and friends.
